On Sunday afternoon, we headed to the East Cork area. As we left Kinsale, we drove through a parade, complete with bagpipers leading the way and hordes of people lining the street. We have no idea what this parade was all about.
On Friday night, Greg is going golfing. He's only been to the driving range once this season, back home, so he wanted to get some practice in. Our first stop, therefore, was at a driving range near Cork. After that, we headed to Cobh (pronounced Cove). This island town was the last port of call for the Titanic. It was also the main port of emigration for the Irish during the potato famine, including the first immigrant to go through Ellis island. We took the car ferry to Cobh, which was a waste of money, but we didn't know until it was too late that there was a bridge that actually would have been closer if we'd taken a different route. Cobh was a pretty town with a nice park area along the water and a lovely cathedral up on the hill.
Someone from church had recommended that we do the Cliff Walk in Ballycotton. As it turns out, it's a pretty long walk, and we weren't really appropriately dressed for it, especially our shoes. We didn't necessarily know when we left home that we were going to go on the cliff walk that day; it just ended up happening, so we weren't really prepared. The walk was scenic, although we only went partway along it before heading back. Several places along the walk were just thick with annoying black bugs, unfortunately. Everything is better without bugs.
It was a good afternoon. Not well planned, perhaps, but good. :)
