First Mother's Day

Today is my very first Mother's Day, and as I sit here on the floor with my precious infant son lying beside me cooing, I feel like the luckiest mommy in the world.

Davis decided to celebrate this special day by having a nice case of insomnia in the wee hours of the morning.  As I walked him around, bouncing, swaying, singing, and wishing he would just fall asleep as I watched the clock hit 4 a.m., he looked up at me with his big bright eyes in the quiet and dark of the nursery and gave me a big, happy smile.

I am the luckiest mommy in the world.  Happy Mother's Day to me!

And Happy Mother's Day to my own mother, and to Greg's (sorry we didn't get cards out - I have been preoccupied and slacking in the card department), and to all the other mommies out there who are almost - but not quite - as lucky as me.

First Mother's Day

Little girls have always dreamed,
Of one day being grown;
Of having a home and family,
And children of their own.

As little girls they played the games,
With dollies cuddled near;
Of being grown up Mommies,
And now that day is here.

For cuddled sweetly in the arms,
Of the little girl now grown;
Is the sweetest dream she ever dreamed,
A baby of her own.

In all the years of growing up,
In the games that little girls play;
None will ever be so sweet,
As her very first Mother's Day.

Cousins

This weekend, Davis met his Aunt Christy, Uncle James, and cousins Jack and Ellie. Ellie wasn't quite sure what to think of this new little guy in the family, but Jack was so good with his baby cousin, always wanting to hold him and kiss him. Visiting with family will be extra fun now when the cousins get together.

Sadness

I just tried on my jeans.

Mistake.

I don't think they will ever fit again.  Even if I lose all this baby weight (I lost 25 pounds in the hospital but still have almost 30 hanging around), I think my hips are just permanently wider.

*Sigh*

Goodbye, size 2!  Goodbye, all my pants!  If I'm correct in my suspicion, my skinny-hipped sister will probably be getting a lot of hand-me-down pants at some point.  And then I'll have to buy all new pants, all at once, which sounds time-consuming and expensive.

*Sigh*

Maybe I should just stick with my maternity pants.

One Month!

Our little guy is now, amazingly, one month old!  I have to admit, I am not sorry to say goodbye to the first month of his life.  Things are beginning to seem much more manageable now and I'm having less "new mommy anxiety."  He is still so small and snuggly, though I do notice a difference between Brand-New Davis and One-Month-Old Davis. He seems much longer, probably because he now keeps his legs more stretched out.  He has officially grown out of a couple of newborn-sized sleepers and is already stretching some of his 0-3 month footed sleepers to the max. He is focusing more and looking us in the eyes.  His neck continues to get stronger and he loves to lift his head way back.  He's rolled from tummy to back a couple more times.  He's vocalizing more and it's so fun to listen to him coo while he lies on his blanket and looks at his toys.  He is sleeping for longer stretches at night . .  . last night he slept 3.5 hours before his first night waking, which is his new record.

His one month well baby visit was today, and Dr. Henderson said he got an A+++++++.  Here are his stats, if you're interested in such things.

11 lb. 1.5 oz. - 80.27 percentile - has gained exactly 1 lb. in the past 12 days.
22.5 inches long - 80.54 percentile
15.5 in. head circumference - 74.03 percentile

Rub a Dub Dub, Our Boy in the Tub

Davis is still undecided about how he feels about getting a bath.

Our Growing Boy

It's amazing to think that Davis is now three weeks old, and Greg and I have survived these first few hectic weeks of parenthood!  :)  After losing 12% of his birth weight before being discharged from the hospital, Davis is finally back to his birth weight (now 10 lbs. 1.5 oz.) thanks to his incessant eating habits.  His umbilical cord stump finally fell off on April Fool's Day (or, as I like to say, he "grew a belly button").  That same day, he successfully managed to maneuver his thumb into his mouth, clamp down on it, and suck vigorously for a few moments before losing contact, an impressive feat which he has repeated once since then.  During "naked tummy time" yesterday, he rolled from his tummy onto his back.  I decided that this was a fluke, since it is way too soon for him to be rolling over.  Yet he did the same thing again today!  We're going to have a roller and a crawler before we know it - Davis is a strong little boy and growing so fast!

Now here are some pictures from the past couple of weeks.

Davis goes on his first stroll around our neighborhood and meets his (very excited) "cousin" Sherman.

 Cuddling with mommy . . . his favorite pastime.
 Playing with Daddy.

 Meeting Grandma and Grandpa Mueller.

 Being cute.

 Sleepy smiling - it is so cute when he smiles and giggles in his sleep!
 "I'm so adorable!"
