In case you haven't noticed . . .

It's Fall!
Brrrr!  After enjoying temperatures near the 80's earlier this week, this brisk fall weather we're having this weekend is a bit of a change.  I can't believe that November is just around the corner!

Doppelganger

Who's that little guy down in the corner?

Davis, right?  It looks EXACTLY like him.

But it's not.

It's his daddy, Greg.

Boy, when people say Davis looks like his daddy, I guess they're not kidding!

Percentiles and Pictures

I have more pictures that are begging to be shared!  Also, I keep forgetting to post Davis' 18 month stats, so here they are:

Weight: 26 lbs. 1 oz. - 75%
Height: 32.5 in. - 52%
Head circumference: 19.5 in. - 94%

wearing Daddy's shoes

Playhouse peek-a-boo

Up having a snack at 10 pm (sigh)

Little monkey!

petting zoo

getting sooo big!

I was planning to write more, but somebody who shall remain nameless woke up from his nap 5 minutes ago and has been hollering for me to come and get him out of his crib. And so - that's all for now!

What Did I Do Today?

What Did I Do Today?

Today I left some dishes dirty;
The bed got made around 3:30.
The diapers soaked a little longer,
The odor grew a little stronger.
The crumbs I spilled the day before,
Are staring at me from the floor.
The fingerprints there on the wall,
Will likely be there still next fall.
The dirty streaks on those windowpanes
Will still be there next time it rains.
Shame on you, you sit and say,
Just what did you do today?
I held a baby till she slept,
I held a toddler while he wept.
I played a game of hide and seek;
I squeezed a toy so it would squeak.
I pulled a wagon, sang a song,
Taught a child right from wrong.
What did I do this whole day through?
Not much that shows, I guess that' s true.
Unless you think that what I've done,
Might be important to someone,
With deep blue eyes and soft blonde hair,
If that is true...I've done my share.

18

Okay, so #18 doesn't play for the Colts anymore and these pics were actually taken last Sunday.  Details, details.  The point is, our little #18 is 18 months old today.  Happy half birthday, big boy!

A Letter to My Husband

To my dear husband,

I just want to say thank you for showing our son last night that he can climb on top of the storage cubes in our living room.

He is enjoying practicing this new skill.

It has made for such an interesting day.

Please teach him some more new tricks tonight.

With sincere thanks,
Your loving wife :)

Just Another Post

This is just another post to update those who care on the question, "So, what is Davis up to these days?"

Davis has now cut 4 molars - that's 10 teeth total.  He has learned how to blow kisses.  He can feed himself with a spoon pretty well.  Eventually, though, he will get impatient, put the spoon down, and either a) dig in with his hands or b) lift up the bowl and try to drink his food (which is successful in the case of applesauce but not so much with oatmeal).  He likes to climb up on the stepstool in his room and turn on the CD player, then bob his head along to the classical music.  He is very proud of his ability to make the music play!

He has become quite obsessed with pillows lately.  He started climbing up into the chair in his room and reach out his arm, opening and closing his hand and saying "nuh nuh!" until you put the pillow up there with him - then he would be all smiles!  He falls asleep with a pillow, wants it in his crib the first thing in the morning (I usually take it out after he falls asleep because he doesn't sleep on it properly anyway - it usually ends up on top of him or tossed to the side) and has even started wanting it up on the changing table with him.  He sometimes drags it around the room with him.  Because "his" pillow is actually a piece of my giant maternity pillow, which I plan to use again someday, I was anxious to make sure he didn't attach himself to it permanently, so we got him a little travel size pillow and he seems to have successfully transferred his affection to it.

We are also entering whining and tantrum territory. It is hard to be a toddler and not always get your way! I am sure it's going to get worse before it gets better. He is just tooo cute when he's mad and sad, though.

He is in that no-man's-land between one and two naps, where it's a daily decision whether or not he will need a morning nap.  But on one nap days, his afternoon naps are getting longer, which is so nice.

When he wants to go on a walk, he will go to his stroller, pull at it, and then will try to put on his socks and shoes.  He knows where the park is in our neighborhood and gets upset if he can't play on the playground.  It is so funny because if we pass the street where we need to turn to get to the park, or if we turn before we get to the park, he starts to fuss.  It is just amazing to us that he knows our neighborhood so well that he knows EXACTLY how to get to the park.  Today we went to the library and he quickly weaved his way through the library to the corner that has the
train table in it, even though we've only been back there to play with it a few times, and none recently.  It seems he has a good memory for how to get places - that's good, because Mommy is terrible at that . . . maybe someday he can be Mommy's little GPS when I'm driving.

We have been going to toddler storytime at the library.  The first time was . . . interesting.  Davis currently has the attention span of a gnat (do gnats have attention spans?).  I think he was confused about what was going on.  He has been getting better at it, though!

Davis "talks" all the time and delighted us last month by playing this game with us in the car: "Davis, can you say dada?" "Dada" "Can you say mama?" "Mama" "Can you say uh-oh?" "Uh-oh!" "Can you say duck?" "Duh"  "Can you say dog?" "Dah"  It was so cute that he was actually listening and repeating the words.  Of course, we have not been able to convince him to repeat this performance. He is also saying "thank you" whenever he hands you something, although it sounds more like "doo doo."  I think he believes that is the appropriate thing to say when you hand something to a person, because that's what I've always said whenever he hands me something.  His babysitter commented that he recently brought his shoes to her and said "Davis" when she was getting all the kids' shoes on to go outside.  He says "woof woof" sometimes when he hears a dog (the kid LOVES dogs . . . and cats, too, for that matter).  The newest additions to his spoken vocabulary this week are "bye-bye" and "up."

He is apparently lacking in the empathy department.  A few weeks back, he woke up in the night and threw up in his bed (gross!), on two sets of pajamas, on the chair, and on Mommy.  It was ever so much fun.  But he seemed okay the next day, so I thought maybe it was just an upset stomach . . . until he gave it to me!  So there I was, crouching over the toilet being violently ill, while Davis stood beside me and laughed and laugheds.  What a meanie!  Later, as I lounged on the couch unable to move without getting sick and hoping Greg was almost home, Davis was over in the kitchen/dining area playing with his empty oatmeal canister . . . . . except it wasn't his empty oatmeal canister.  He had gotten ahold of the full oatmeal canister, took the lid off, and dumped the entire container of oatmeal all over the floor.  He was delighted with it, and was grabbing fistfuls of oatmeal and throwing it in the air!  He has also decided that it's fun to bite Mommy and just laughs and laughs when I tell him no and that biting hurts, then will try to do it again.  *sigh*

And because I'm sure you have been checking this blog ten times a day hoping to see more photos of our baby-turning-toddler, I am happy to oblige.
